This is a popular, social, cultural, educational, and festive event that highlights the jewels of living and sailing heritage.
The festivities will begin on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16 with the celebration of traditional boats in their respective departmental ports: lasses marennaises, traditional rigs from the Gironde estuary, sloops from the Pertuis, Rhétais gaff cutters, sardine boats, coastal boats, and more. Their departure and convergence, as an armada, through the Charente and Breton Pertuis towards the old port of La Rochelle from June 16 to 19 will be a magnificent spectacle visible from the coast.
Five large sailing ships, with three or four masts, ranging from 40 to 70 meters, either reconstructed replicas or restored vessels, 40 classic yachts, and over 80 heritage boats will gather in La Rochelle. Their arrival in large numbers and as a fleet in the Bay of Biscay will be a first.
For the large sailing ships, the La Rochelle stop is part of an ambitious program of an Atlantic loop that will take these ships from La Rochelle to Bordeaux (June 27-30), before heading to Brest (July 12-17).
For four days, from June 20 to 23, 2024, the quays of La Rochelle will resonate with songs, choirs, animations, demonstrations of knot tying, caulking, sail tanning... Discovering trades, virtuous innovations in the sector, as well as tastings of seafood and local products, will be on the agenda.
